Adventure Description

Our first backcountry camping trip in our Intro to Backcountry series, a hike-in experience that's perfect for those on their first trip but equally fun if you have more experience.

We're going back to Algonquin Park but going deeper into the wilderness this time. We'll hike in everything that we need to support ourselves for the next 2 days. An easy hike the first day of 5km takes us to an incredible undeveloped campsite on the shore of Lake Provoking where we'll set up camp for the night. We'll cook on a stove, roast food on the camp fire, swim in the warm June weather and sleep under the most incredible night skies.

The following day, we'll either chill out at camp or tackle the 14km first loop of the Highland Backpacking Trail, a challenging but manageable trail that will take us all around Lake Provoking.

Camping in Algonquin for the first time can be a truly transformative experience. You'll be far from civilization, fully self sufficient in some of the most beautiful surroundings you can imagine. Picture yourself falling asleep to the sounds of wolves howling and waking up to find moose at the shore at dawn. Everyone has a different experience on their first backcountry trip but it's never something they forget.

Camping gear rental is available for this trip!

This trip is suitable for all fit members and extremely affordable, starting at just $10+HST Explorer and Pathfinder members! You have the option of having all meals and equipment provided or bringing your own. We'll be sharing tents (separated by gender) for this adventure due to limits on space in the campsite.

We'll be organizing a social beforehand to meet everyone who's coming and figure out who's sharing with whom!

Renting Camping Gear

We'll be providing full camping kits containing:

  • Backpack
  • Sleeping mat
  • Pillow
  • Sleeping bag
  • Tent
  • Stove+gas

Meal Option

Members without serious allergies have the option of having all meals provided. You'll get:

  • 1x Hot Dinner (likely a dehydrated meal) on Saturday
  • 1x Breakfast and Lunch on Sunday

Self Driving

Please note that, while you are welcome to self-drive, you will need to purchase parking permits each day in the park (approx $42 total) so it's considerably more cost effective to take a ride up in the van for this adventure.
