Welcome to the second event in our Introduction to Backcountry series!
After the first session of learning to navigate, we'll be putting our new skills to the test with a real navigation exercise. Please note, you will need to have attended Level 1 in order to attend this session! For this adventure, we'll be going out of the city to an undisclosed location with nothing but a map, compass and route card. We'll separate into teams and navigate around an unfamiliar but safe environment with supervision from a professional instructor.
By the end of the day, you'll be confident that you can read a map, find your way around foreign environments and safely navigate on future wilderness adventures.
Instruction
We're once again getting instruction from a former top Navigation instructor in the Canadian Army, Captain Robert Buckingham (RETD).
Captain Buckingham served a tour in Afghanistan before specializing in light infantry tactics. He completed his Airborne Patrol Pathfinder course in 2012 followed by the Infantry Advanced Reconnaissance course. He later became an Advanced Reconnaissance Instructor at the Canadian Infantry School where he was honoured with the school's top instructor award.
What you get when you sign up
We'll be lending maps and compasses for all participants
