The Wilderness First Responder program is an immersive 80 hour program built for rescuers who specialize in decision making, extrication, and transport in remote and wilderness settings. This program teaches you leadership skills, decision making in non-traditional environments, and the skills to respond and provide care in a remote setting. Wilderness First Responders are trained to provide care overnight, and up to a few days, as well as evacuation.
If you're interested in becoming a guide for Wilderness Union or any other outdoor organization, the WFR is the basic qualification that most expect. As well as qualifying you for outdoor work, it will also give you greater confidence in your own adventures.
The course is taught by Swift Response, a Canadian Red Cross partner and is recognized by WSIB for workplace first aid requirements. By the end of it you'll receive a 3-year certification in Basic Life Support, CPR Level C, and AED from the Canadian Red Cross as well as a WFR certificate. Course fee includes book and certificate.
We'll be taught by experienced Canadian Red Cross certified instructions.
